Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty or (ESG) is a non-surgical gastric sleeve procedure that uses an endoscopic suturing device placed into the stomach through the mouth to reduce the size of the stomach.
This procedure is ideal for those with a body mass index from 30 to 40.
The endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a helpful procedure for those who want the benefits of weight loss surgery but from a less invasive, non-surgical procedure.
This means that unlike surgery the stomach remains intact but has been stitched from top to bottom, there is no cutting or stapling, no scarring and no wounds.
Before the procedure, you will need to follow specific preparation instructions, which you will discuss with Dr. Tarek Saleh
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is performed in the hospital under general anesthesia.
The procedure takes approximately 90 minutes, and the majority of patients go home the same day. Some patients might require a short admission to the hospital for a day or less for observation after the procedure.
The procedure works by reducing stomach capacity and slowing down the speed at which food passes into the bowel.
It is not recommended before 18 months after any bariatric surgery.
Patients should be aware that ESG procedure can cause temporary sore throat, abdominal pain and nausea the first 3 days, it is very important to discuss this with Dr. Tarek Saleh right from the start, understanding and managing expectations whilst keeping in mind any possible associated risks.
Doctor Tarek Saleh Message: Patient should understand that weight loss results vary from person to person and be aware of the importance of participating in the 12 months program combined with appropriate healthy behaviors lifestyle including diet and exercises.
